A Seat at the Table Community Initiative (ASATTCI) partners with A Seat at the Table Books (ASATTB), Elk Grove's queer- and family-owned bookstore, to offer mission-driven events, programs, and services.
ASATTCI's mission is to cultivate a sense of belonging, heal loneliness, and give everyone a seat at the table in Elk Grove and surrounding areas. Our vision is to foster a sense of belonging in Elk Grove by celebrating diverse voices, sharing knowledge, and driving positive change through three foundations: education and literacy, skill building, and mutual aid. We seek to create a safe, equitable, and vibrant local and regional community where everyone thrives and contributes.
ASATTCI currently leads Science Cafe, resource fairs, Open Table Skill Shares, storytimes, Open Mics, and more. It hosted the groundbreaking Banned Camp for teens in the summer of 2024, and STEM education programming via a SMUD Shine Grant in 2025. This year, ASATTCI has received a second SMUD Shine Grant to update the Quiet/Sensory Room.
In founding ASATTCI, Emily Autenrieth and ASATTB joined dozens of other bookstores around the country that have adopted this hybrid business/nonprofit model to best meet their community's needs for literacy and community connection.
We are a fiscally sponsored project of The Giving Back Fund, a nonprofit that takes new projects like ours under its wing, handles all the accounting and donor management, and ensures that every expense aligns with a charitable purpose. We are thrilled to have this partnership to support our community's needs in new ways.
You can help in two ways:
Donate to support our work via our giving portal to make a tax-deductible donation.
Volunteer for our nonprofit with the support of our volunteer coordinator, Rachel! Email team@asattci.org to inquire. There are a lot of ways you can share your skills, interests, and time to help our nonprofit and community.
